Good Governance & Accountability
Public office is a public trust. The people of Benue deserve leaders who explain their decisions, measure their promises, and answer to citizens between elections, not only during them.
Where Benue Stands
Ask a Benue citizen what they expect of public office and the answer is rarely extravagant: tell us the truth, spend what is ours where we can see it, and come back to explain. The distance between that modest expectation and lived experience is where public trust has drained away.
Rebuilding that trust is slow, deliberate work. It looks like promises made in numbers so they can be checked in numbers; budgets that can be followed from allocation to outcome; and consultation that happens before decisions, in the town square, not after them, in the press.
What Must Change
- Transparency in how public resources are raised and spent
- Promises made in numbers, so performance can be measured in numbers
- Genuine consultation with communities before decisions, not after
- A standard of conduct in public life that restores trust in service
How Progress Is Measured
- Commitments published with figures and dates, then reviewed publicly
- Town halls held across the zones, on a calendar anyone can see
- Citizen questions answered on the record
- Conduct in office that survives scrutiny without excuses
